When & How to use Bubble Chart

A bubble chart displays a set of numeric values as circles. It is especially useful for data sets with dozens to hundreds of values, or with values that differ by several orders of magnitude.

The circles in a bubble chart represent different data values, with the area of a circle corresponding to the value. The positions of the bubbles don't mean anything, but are designed to pack the circles together with relatively little wasted space.

Bubble charts or bubble graphs are extremely useful graphs for comparing the relationships between data objects in 3 numeric-data dimensions: the X-axis data, the Y-axis data, and data represented by the bubble size.
How to create Bubble Graph on Excel
As explained in the class, taking the same data of shares value used in excel sheet the header(4 variables) as DATE,OPEN,CLOSE & VOLUME.
  • Select the data
  • Select the insert button, Bubble Graph
  • Your graph will appear on the sheet right click on the graph
  • Click select data option, remove all the list shown
  • Go on add, in series name select the date column, press tab
  • In series X value select the open column, press tab
  • In series Y value select the close column, press tab
  • In series bubble value select the volume column, press tab
  • Then select ok & again ok.
This will continue till you are done will all the data.
Below given is another example for your better understanding.
step1. let's set up our table first. I used the "Series Name", "X axis", "Y axis", "Bubble Size" convention

Series Name
X-axis Value
Y-axis Value
Bubble size
A
1
3
5
B
0.5
0.8
50
C
1.5
2
10
step2. without selecting the table, insert a bubble chart (Alt, N, O)
insert chart, bubble chart
step 3. while the empty chart is selected, hit select data (Alt, J,C,E). The following menu will pop up:
select data source
step 4. hit add, then this will pop up:
edit series
step 5. now, you have to enter four data points for each series.
Once one is entered, repeat step 4 until all of your data has been entered into the chart.

with a couple of easy changes, here's what my bubble chart looks like (i played with the formatting a little bit...)
